Tracey Saxby
2023 has been a year of action for My Sea to Sky, but we could not do this work without the dedicated support of our amazing staff, volunteers, donors, partners, and each and every one of you. We are truly grateful for the people that make our critical work to defend, protect, and restore Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound possible.
Our impact in 2023:
-
We held 16+ demonstrations and mobilized our supporters to send 4,640+ letters to hold Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC accountable, call to end fracking, and advocate for a strong oil and gas emissions cap.
-
We highlighted the work of Justice for Girls, sharing the human rights impacts that resource extraction projects like Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC will have on women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people in our communities.
-
We hired an environmental toxicologist to review FortisBC and Woodfibre LNG’s three applications to pollute Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound.
-
We exposed how FortisBC altered a government report to protect their profits and delay climate action.
-
We partnered with the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association to oppose extractive forest practices on the Sunshine Coast.
-
We partnered with West Coast Environmental Law and the District of Squamish signed on to Sue Big Oil!
-
We intervened in three BC Utility Commission hearings to stop FortisBC's plans for LNG and fracked gas.
-
We launched the 2023 Climate Emergency Progress Report with diverse partners, garnering national media attention, and forcing Premier Eby to identify climate action as one of two top priorities at the BC NDP convention.
-
We helped stop the Burnco gravel mine for good! Stay tuned for more details about that soon...
-
We launched two legal challenges to hold the Federal and Provincial governments to account and overturn approvals for Woodfibre LNG and FortisBC.

Last chance to take action
The official public comment period is underway to review FortisBC's application for two permits to discharge wastewater into the Squamish River and Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound.
Anyone using the Squamish River, the estuary, or Howe Sound for recreation, fishing, or harvesting traditional foods could be negatively affected by the approval of these permits.
We need you to send a personalized letter to the BC Energy Regulator and share how you use these areas, so we can show how many people are directly impacted.
DEADLINE: 30th December 2023
