Urgent! Woodfibre LNG is trying to weaken environmental regulations related to underwater noise, water quality, and sediment quality to avoid taking responsibility for its pollution.

Woodfibre LNG is owned by Sukanto Tanoto, a notorious Indonesian billionaire whose companies have a history of tax evasion and profit shifting, human rights violations (including child labour), animal rights violations, and environmental destruction.

Woodfibre LNG has already had a leachate spill in 2016. Earlier this year, Woodfibre LNG was issued a warning that the project is non-compliant with the notification and submission requirements of its Environmental Assessment Certificate, and twelve of its conditions.

Please take a moment to send a letter to Minister Steven Guilbeault.

Permission to pollute?

These proposed changes to Federal regulations are even more concerning now that Woodfibre LNG has applied to the BC Energy Regulator for a permit to dump toxic effluent into Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound. LEARN MORE

We need to up the pressure on Guilbeault

Minister Steven Guilbeault is the final decision maker, and he can deny Woodfibre LNG's application to weaken the conditions of its environmental assessment certificate.

We need you to call, email, and tweet at Minister Guilbeault to demand that he holds Woodfibre LNG accountable to the highest standards based on the latest science.

How to call a Minister

Calling the Minister's office is easy, and it has a big impact. Here's an example script:

Hi, my name is _____ and I'm calling today because I am really concerned / upset / angry / worried that Woodfibre LNG is trying to weaken the conditions of its environmental assessment certificate.

This company already has a history of toxic spills, and was recently found to be non-compliant with the conditions of its environmental assessment certificate.

How can we trust that Woodfibre LNG will manage underwater noise and effluent discharge responsibly when the company already has a history of failing to comply with basic regulations?

Minister Guilbeault needs to hold Woodfibre LNG to the highest standards based on the latest science. Please do not allow Woodfibre LNG to weaken the conditions of its environmental assessment certificate.

Share why you love Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound and why it's important to you.

If you voted Liberal in the last election, tell Guilbeault that if he approves the amendment the Liberals will lose your vote. Politicians seem to care about that.

Ask the staff to record your name and contact info so there is a record of your call.

And that's it! It's that simple! It helps if you practice what you want to say before you call, or write down the key points.

Here's the Minister's office number again: 1-800-668-6767

Thank you for helping to up the pressure on Guilbeault! Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound is too precious to put at risk.
