    Your MLA

Why should you send a letter to your MLA?

Your MLA works for you—but they only act when they hear from constituents. Sending a letter is one of the most effective ways to demand climate leadership.

Right now, BC is off track on climate targets, while decisions being made today will lock in pollution and higher costs for decades. Your voice can help shift those decisions toward solutions that protect our health, communities, and future, while making life more affordable for everyday people.

Tips to personalize your letter

Personalized letters have a bigger impact than template letters. Here are some tips to make it personal.

  1. Introduce yourself
Who are you? Where do you live? What is your role in the community?
  2. Why do you care?
"I'm a business owner in [community], and I'm worried about rising insurance costs..." or "I'm a mother and I care about my children's future..."
  3. Tell your story and perspective
How have you been impacted by climate change? Extreme heat, wildfires, floods, severe storms, drought have impacted hundreds of thousands of people across BC.
  4. Keep it short
A few personalized lines are all you need.
  5. Ask for something specific
We need our MLAs to implement policies that will build a safer and healthier British Columbia, and reduce costs for everyday people.

About the BC Climate Emergency Campaign

In September 2021, a broad coalition of 200 organizational signatories published an open letter calling on the BC government to commit to ten urgent climate actions.

Four years later, the open letter has more than 640 signatories representing over 2.2 million British Columbians.

The annual progress reports evaluate the BC government's progress on implementing these ten urgent climate actions every year.
