Flaring open house this Thursday in Squamish

In 2015, Woodfibre LNG estimated flaring during start-up and commissioning would last for one month. (see Section 2.2 of Woodfibre LNG's Planned and Emergency Flaring Report.)
Now, in August 2026, Woodfibre LNG shared in an update to Squamish Nation that “Flaring is to occur more frequently in roughly three years of commissioning and early operations of the LNG facility.”
Three years! Not one month as Woodfibre LNG originally claimed.
And the flame will be up to 90 metres high!

I am a mom of a six-year-old and I live in Squamish.
Earlier this year we learned from Dr Tim Takaro how air pollution from LNG facilities can harm human health. Seniors and children are most at risk.
We also heard from Kitimat resident and Acute Care Nurse, Ankur Patel, how flaring at LNG Canada is affecting Kitimat residents.
