Know who (and what!) you're voting for
October 9, 2024
Tracey Saxby
The BC election is October 19, and every vote counts. The next provincial government will be making critical decisions on fracking, LNG exports, and climate action that will have a direct impact on our collective future. Here's what you need to do.
1. Get informed
Know who you are voting for. What are their values? Do they have a vision for the future that inspires you? What policies have they committed to? Which parties are committed to urgent climate action?
Did you know that John Rustad, the leader of the BC Conservatives, was kicked out of the BC Liberals (aka BC United) for climate change denial? Or that BC Conservative candidates across the province have been shamefully skipping debates that focus on climate and the environment?

3. Ask your friends and family to vote
This election is shaping up to be a very tight race, and the outcome could be decided by just a few ridings. That means every vote counts. Please phone, text, or email your friends and help to get out the vote.
4. Put your candidates in the hot seat
The BC Climate Emergency Campaign has put together an amazing election toolkit to help you talk to your candidates, ask questions at all-candidates events, write letters to your local paper or candidates, and have election conversations with your friends and family.
It highlights the connections between affordability and the climate crisis; has example questions for climate-related issues; and tips on how to respond to myths and disinformation, particularly on LNG and fracking.
