Have your say on Floatel #2

Woodfibre LNG has applied for a second floatel housing another 650 workers to accelerate construction. Learn how to have your say, below.

After operating without a municipal permit for over a year, Woodfibre LNG has applied for a second floating workcamp (aka "floatel") to house another 650 workers and accelerate construction.

Here are two opportunities to have your say:

1. Amendment to Woodfibre LNG's environmental assessment certificate

Woodfibre LNG has applied to the BC Environmental Assessment Office to amend its Environmental Assessment Certificate for a second floating workcamp. This will double the number of workers being water-taxied through Átl’ḵa7tsem / Howe Sound to 1,300 (along with many other issues).

The public are invited to review the application and submit comments by August 2, 2025.

INSTRUCTIONS: To submit a comment, go to the EPIC.engage site, scroll to the bottom and click on "Share Thoughts." You will have to enter your email, and the system will then email you a link to a survey.

The survey asks for input on community well-being, anticipated effects on human health and the environment, mitigation measures and cumulative effects, and the accuracy of the application as a whole.

DEADLINE August 2, 2025

2. Temporary Use Permit from the District of Squamish

Woodfibre LNG has also applied (again!) for a Temporary Use Permit through the District of Squamish, this time for both floating workcamps. After operating without a permit for over a year, this would bring both the first and second floatels into compliance.

Council voted last Tuesday to start the Temporary Use Permit process, which will be brought before council on July 29, 2025.

INSTRUCTIONS: The Temporary Use Permit will only be made available to the public on July 24, 2025, less than a week before the Temporay Use Permit will be considered by council.

In the meantime you can read the staff report, watch council's discussion, and read the Squamish Chief article.

Email your concerns to the District of Squamish Mayor and Council at council@squamish.ca (and please copy info@myseatosky.org).

DEADLINE JULY 29, 2025

*******

We'll put more information together soon, but wanted to give you all a heads up. We're very worried that Woodfibre LNG is using the current geo-political climate to rush these permits through approvals at both the provincial and local level with little oversight.
